So, dear readership, as promised in the previous post, here is what I have been working on! It's a hand out on basically two guides that can help you determine where to live next, or what to expect when you are moving. It's kinda cool.
CNNMoney.com: Best Places to Live
+Offers Top 100 Locations -Does not survey all metropolitan areas
• Top places to live in the United States, breaks it down state by state.
• Find Your Best Places: sort by region, ranking, population, home prices.
• Compare Offers side-by-side comparison of locations with the average of the 100 best places. Criteria includes cost of living, quality of life, leisure & culture, education, schools, et.al.
• Libraries & Museums factor as criteria, listed under “Leisure & Culture.”
Sperling’s Best Places
+Surveys a large majority of US locations -Less dynamic than CNN
• Location overviews include summaries, population, health, housing, crime, transportation, religion, and cost of living.
• Offers a find your “best place” quiz, by search for climate, economy, housing, education, health, crime, recreation, arts, transportation, and population.
• Includes overviews and data on counties, not just cities.
• Cost of Living Calculator, including comparing cities side by side with above criteria.
• Intriguing surveys such as the “Best Place to Make a ‘Connection’.”
Bureau of Labor Statistics
+Massive Data Set -Need to know what you are doing!
• Consumer Price Index (CPI): “Monthly data on changes in the prices paid by urban consumers for a representative basket of goods and services.” Good for broad regions, not specific cities.
• Provides RSS and email subscriptions to new CPI news releases.
• Allows you to view statistical data in an automatically generated graph.
• Location Quotient: “Provides a way to readily compare the industrial activity levels among different areas of the country.”
• Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey: “Provides data on job openings, hires, and separations.
• Unemployment statistics available by state.
